Data Physics was founded in February 1984 by David Snyder and Sri Welaratna.

Director, Product Management, SignalCalc and SignalStar

Thomas Reilly

As Director of Product Management, Thomas Reilly leads a team of product managers, responsible for the complete range of Data Physics products, including; signal analyzers, vibration control systems, high intensity acoustic test systems, and electrodynamic shaker systems. The product management team is responsible for product planning and execution throughout each product’s life cycle. This includes gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with engineering, sales, marketing, and customer support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met.

Tom has almost 30 years of experience in vibration and acoustic testing and analysis. He started his career working with the US Navy in the area of acoustic analysis and design of submarines and surface ships. For more than 20 years he has worked for manufacturers of data acquisition systems, dynamic signal analyzers, and vibration control systems. Tom is a member of several industry working groups that define specifications and recommended practices for vibration testing and qualification. He has written numerous technical paper and articles on vibration testing, analysis and control, including multi degree of freedom vibration testing. Tom has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech.

Vice President, Global Shaker Business Unit

Kevin W. McIntosh

As Director of Product Management, Kevin leads a team of product managers and applications engineers responsible for the Data Physics SignalForce and SignalSound product lines, which include high intensity acoustic test systems and electrodynamic shaker systems. The product management team is responsible for product planning and execution throughout each product’s life cycle. This includes gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with engineering, sales, marketing, and customer support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met.

Kevin has more than 30 years of experience in vibration and acoustic testing. He spent 23 years working at Team Corporation in a variety of positions, most of which were in technical sales and service for servo-hydraulic vibration test systems, under one year as the Product Line Manager of Vibration Systems with Lansmont Corporation, and nearly 8 years at Data Physics as the Shaker Operations Manager. Kevin is a member of several industry working groups that define specifications and recommended practices for vibration testing and qualification. He is currently the Chairman of the IEST DTE-009 Shaker Selection Working group.

Director, DSP Engineering

David Stephens

As Director of DSP Engineering, David Stephens leads a global team of hardware and software DSP engineers, responsible for the implementation of Data Physics DSP products, including; signal analyzers, turbomachinery vibration analyzers, vibration control systems, and high intensity acoustic test systems. The DSP engineering team brings to life all of Data Physics DSP products and maintains and improves them through each product’s life cycle. With input and guidance from product management, sales, and customer feedback, the DSP engineering team builds and delivers industry standard applications for an expanding range of test and measurement customers.

David joined Data Physics nearly 25 years ago as a university student summer intern. Over that period he has learned from the best at Data Physics while working the full range of DSP products first as an R&D Engineer and later as Project Lead. He’s a Silicon Valley native and has been in love with computers since he was a teenage hacker during the birth of desktop computing. When he’s not helping the Data Physics DSP engineering team create the best DSP products he can be found researching and tinkering with the latest computer technologies and software engineering methodologies. David has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from San Jose State University where he graduated with Great Distinction.

Legacy – Founder

David C. Snyder

Dave Snyder provided essential technology and engineering help for the development of Data Physics products. Dave Snyder’s ingenuity and technical expertise has led to numerous successful generations of DP hardware and software.

Before joining forces with Sri Welaratna to form Data Physics, Dave worked with high-energy physics particles at LRL, low-altitude satellite orbits at DDI and Digital Signal Processing at HP Santa Clara. He was also an independent consultant, with clients such as Fairchild Semiconductor. He is a 10-year alumnus of HP where he contributed to the world’s first commercial Fourier Analyzer, the HP5450, introduced the microcode architecture that was the basis of the HP5451 and future generations of HP Fourier Analyzers and designed hardware, microcode and software for the HP5427 digital vibration controller and the HP5420 portable FFT analyzer.

Dave Snyder received a degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of California at Berkeley, and has done graduate work at Stanford and UCSC.

Sri R. Welaratna

Sri Welaratna helped Data Physics, planning its strategic direction and position in industry. Data Physics continues to innovate, striving for excellence and pushing technological frontiers in the test and measurement industry.

Sri Welaratna came across the Fourier Transform in 1971 while doing research at the University of Bradford in England and went to work for Hewlett-Packard, first in Europe and then at Santa Clara. His work at HP included applications engineering, marketing, and software development. Prior to starting Data Physics, Sri had a career as an independent consultant doing work for a number of international and Silicon Valley companies including IBM. Sri then joined with Dave Snyder to form Data Physics in 1984.

Sri Welaratna originally trained as an Electrical Engineer in Sri Lanka and worked as an Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer before receiving a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Bradford in England. Sri has authored many technical articles.
