Data Physics recently received two separate orders for very large SignalStar Matrix vibration controllers from two US Department of Defense (DOD) organizations. The Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Dahlgren, Virginia and the Army White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) in New Mexico both purchased SignalStar Matrix multi shaker control systems.
The Naval Surface Warfare Center required a controller capable of multi shaker, multi axis control for testing of missiles. The system had to have 120 input channels, 5 shaker drive channels, and be capable of performing random, sine, classical shock, SRS synthesis, mixed mode, and time waveform replication control for both single shaker and multi shaker configurations. The system also had to be separable into two individual controllers so that two smaller tests could be run simultaneously. The modular Abacus architecture was ideal for the purpose. After soliciting bids, two vendors were selected for a two day evaluation running 5 shaker, dual shaker and single shaker tests in the laboratory at the Naval Surface Warfare Center. After an exhaustive evaluation, the Matrix controller was selected.
The US Army White Sands Missile Range required a Matrix controller with 64 input channels and 12 shaker drive channels. This system had to be capable of both multi shaker and single shaker control of random, sine, classical shock, SRS synthesis, mixed mode, and time waveform replication. White Sands Missile Range already has two SignalStar Vector single shaker controllers and it selected the SignalStar Matrix.
These purchases add to a growing number of SignalStar Matrix multi shaker controllers already in use at Department of Defense test facilities. Two Matrix controllers are used for 6 DOF testing at the US Army Redstone Technical Test Center (RTTC) in Huntsville, AL. Another one is used for dual shaker testing at the Naval Air Warfare Center in China Lake, CA. The Naval Air Warfare Center has also recently purchased two additional Matrix systems for delivery when the MDOF shaker systems become ready. These two Matrix systems are capable of 6 DOF testing and may be combined to create a single system capable of driving 12 shakers.
