Web Seminar: Multi Frequency Swept Sine Vibration Testing on Thursday, November 15, 2012


Durability testing of engine mounted components is often performed using swept sine testing. This involves repeated sweeps of sine vibration across the frequency range of the engine vibration. This can be very costly and time consuming. A consortium of German automobile manufacturers recently approved the use of multiple simultaneous swept sine tones to reduce the time and cost of durability testing of engine mounted components.

This web seminar will present a new multi frequency sine control technique that uses multiple swept sine control loops with independent digital tracking filters. The primary advantage of this technique is that it significantly reduces the required test duration. The result is a system capable of smooth continuous sine sweeps that excite all frequencies in the test range without sacrificing control performance.

Thomas Reilly received a B.S. Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1983. He has almost 30 years of experience in vibration and acoustic testing and analysis, including more than 20 years of experience working for manufacturers of data acquisition, signal analysis, and vibration control systems.
